Sample most likely modern as it is cellulose rich, contains modern roots that have penetrated the green wood. No indications that the matrix could have preserved the wood in the anaerobic state required for ancient wood preservation and the wood shows no signs of water logging, desiccation, or mineralisation but has significant rot. Most likely 50-200 years old.
