Locus:7685:039 is located adjacent to pit Locus:7685:032 .
The color of the soil reddish-gray. Its consistency is relatively loose. The soil contains chunks of (burnt) mud-brick, white chalky material, small stones, roots and bits of charcoal.
The stratigraphic relationship between Locus 39 and Locus 32 still needs to be established.
16.09.10
After having reached the same level as in pit Locus:7685:030 the earth was left to dry, still, being comparatively humid after Monday's (13.09.10) big rain shower. The east section of Locus:7685:039 , subsequently, showed an interesting sequence or series of superimposed layers (from top to bottom): (I) a top layer consisting of pieces of mud-brick and white chalky material, a (II) level marked by - at least - one flat lying potsherd, a (III) reddish layer and a (III) blackish layer. The blackish layer can be recognized in or followed into part of the south section of Locus:7685:39 (about one third). One possibility is that Locus:7685:039 cut into a different feature furnished with multiple distinct (fill) layers.
The same layers have also been observed in pit Locus:7685:030 . Both layers could therefore be interpreted as a floor or surface located outside the entrance to the central building complex. The identity of Locus:7685:039 as a pit may be questioned. Note that contrary to Locus:7685:032 , Locus:7685:039 did not yield a single IA potsherd (for more details check final report excavation unit 7685 by J. Eerbeek).
