Surface Locus:7685:142 continues below wall Locus:7685:038 , Locus:7685:080 and Locus:7685:083 . As a result, it need pre-date the construction of these walls.

The soil is relatively loose and yellowish/greenish grey in color. It contained small stones, sand particles (small stones), ash and pieces of charcoal.

Surface Locus:7685:142 yielded a large amount of pottery, including a large number of whole profiles and/or intact vessels. Another prominently represented find category is constituted by animal bone. A considerable number of fragments was found.

Surface Locus:7685:142 can be interpreted as a primary deposit. The large amount of intact vessels and/or potsherds - many of which lay flat on the surface - seems to indicate that surface Locus:7685:142 represents an intentional deposit. It may be viewed in connection with a specific feast and/or other (short-term) event. Food remains (i.e. the animal bone fragments) were found widely distributed. In a number of cases, pieces of animal bone were found - still - inside their (original) ceramic containers.

The shallow soil matrix - only a single layer of pots was found - makes clear that the building-up of the deposit under consideration here need not be viewed as a long-term process (e.g. rubbish pit).

Thus, surface Locus:7685:142 represents a unique closed find complex, pre-dating the construction of wall Locus:7685:038 , Locus:7685:080 and Locus:7685:083 .

Open shapes clearly predominate. Only few closed shapes were identified (only in the sherd material).
