Locus:7784:004 was originally identified as a pit, located in the southern half of the excavated area.
Its contents consisted of relatively big, blackened chunks of (burnt) mud-brick. The color of the soil is reddish-brown (with patches of black material). Its consistency may be described as medium-loose. Only little pottery and animal bone material could be recovered. Locus 4 contained a good many small-medium sized stones. Some had apparently been blackened by fire (?), others had become white (fried stone) and crumbly, which could be explained as the result of intense burning or high temperatures.

The bottom of Locus:7784:004 is made up of chalky stones.
Locus 4 can probably be viewed in conjunction with Locus:7785:141 , the fill of which similarly consisted of loose, almost sandy soil, and large chunks of (hard-fired) mud-brick.

Alternatively, Locus:7784:004 and Locus:7785:141 may be interpreted as wall-segments. Note that both pits are located at wall-junctions and/or cross-points .They may have contained a wooden support construction (cf. burnt contents and discussion in final report Area 3 by J. Eerbeek).
