The soil contains many stones probably the ones fallen from the south wall. One of the stones was so large and heavy that it first had to be broken before it could carried-out of the tunnel by Mohammed and Ender. This locus is about 120 cm long and in this area we find step 38 with a width of 50 cm. Elevations: east 273.32 and west 273.42. This step is partly hidden below the ground beam of the second ‘A’ frame.
Step 39 is almost 65 cm wide and slopes in this with about 10 cm down towards the east. Elevations: east 273.12 and west 273.22 At the location where step 36 and 37 have a round hole, is in step 39 a very shallow roundish depression of which cannot positively identified as the ‘third hole’.
At the east end is the beginning of step 40, which is only partly visible.
